It's
a question in everybody's mind sooner or later -- how to keep skin young
looking. A part of looking young we often forget is keeping our skin healthy,
and that's probably the most important part of all. That takes nutrition. Here
are several all-important ways to give your skin the nourishment it needs to
keep looking young and healthy.
Healthy
living choices make a big difference. Smoking, getting sunburned, and a typical
fast-food diet are all hard on your skin. I won't give lectures here; just
mentioning facts that shouldn't be ignored.
Two
healthy eating tips you might try, if you're satisfied with your current diet:
1.
Try to add green salads to your diet a couple of times a week. Use the deep
colors: deep green romaine lettuce or spinach leaves are much more
nutrition-packed than iceberg lettuce. So are tomatoes, red, orange, yellow and
green peppers and carrots.
2.
If you like fruit, indulge. Again, go for the intense colors. Berries are tops
on the nutrition scale for fruit -- blueberries, strawberries, blackberries,
raspberries. Plums, grapefruit and applies are all good choices. Go for the
whole fruit rather than just the juice.
Another
great way to keep looking and feeling is to use quality supplements. Elsewhere
I suggest both great vitamin supplements and fish oil for daily use.
Then
there are the nutrients you can apply with a skin care lotion or cream. Most
people don't realize it, but you ARE ingesting a part of any skin cream you
apply, as surely as if you at it. Your skin will absorb some of that, so you
want to be sure those ingredients are the purest, safest available.
To
name just one that I nourish my skin with every day: an extract of sea kelp
from Japan called Phytessence Wakame. The Japanese have been using wakame as a
healthy food for centuries, partly because of its effects on the complexion.
It's one of the secrets of why the Japanese seem to keep looking young for so
long.
Phytessence
Wakame is moisturizing, soothing, and healing for damaged skin. It contains
antioxidants, increases the skin's elasticity, and has one other truly
remarkable ability. It rebuilds hyaluronic acid in the skin to levels most
people had when they were years younger. Hyaluronic acid is a critical
ingredient in youthful skin, and its loss over time is a major cause of skin
aging.
